Abstract Disturbed clearance of toxic metabolites from the brain via cerebrospinal fluid is emerging as an important mechanism behind dementia and neurodegeneration. To this end, magnetic resonance imaging work-up of dementia diseases is largely focused on anatomical derangements of the brain.
