An Economic Exploration of Business Models that aim to reduce Waste

The main objectives of this study were to explore what are the most prominent business models that aim at reducing waste – circular business models. Also, the impact on stakeholders and the influence of cultural traditions were studied to evaluate the effectiveness and difficulty of integrating a circular business model. The research interviewed experienced people that have worked on projects, which focused on integrating circular business models. The information retrieved produced a case study on SWM’s Cocoa Paper and a critical summary of the interviewee’s thoughts on circular business models. Based on the qualitative data, the most prominent circular business model depends from case to case, however, the current most utilized ones are the ‘Circular Supply Chain model’, and ‘Recovery and Recycling model’, especially in the B2B market. Cultural implications to this topic are very present in the modern-day, especially between the US and EU. Governments have a key role in the transition and must be willing to aid and regulate to shift our economy to a circular one
