This thesis is concerned with the application of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to reaction kineties, sodium resonance and hydrogen-bonding. In Section 1 a historical introduction to N. M. R. is given. Section 2 deals with the theory of N. M. R. , and the classical approach to it, and concludes with the derivation of the Bloch equations. Section 3 discusses the quantum mechanical approach to the theory of N. M. R. The close proximity of the results of the classical and quantum mechanical approaches is shown. Section 4 deals with the introduction of nuclear density matrices to the theory of N. M. R. Section 5 is mainly concerned with the application of the Bloch equations to reaction kinetics.
