The aim of this programme of research was to develop a suitable Operating System to control a pneumatically powered industrial robot from a microcomputer. The result of this work has been to produce a satisfactory servo controller for operating an inexpensive, fully-programmable robot which has been successfully exploited in Industry. The functional modes of the Operating System include a means for teaching, editing and replaying any desired workcycle composed of spacial targets, palletising arrays, time-delay elements and a means for synchronising the robot with external events.
