In this paper, we will share with our readers an analysis we have made about the conflicts generated in a family when one or both of the parents, mother or father, decide to migrate out of their country of origin but their children have to stay. This analysis is supported by our research project Changes and Conflicts of International Migration in Family Groups, made in Cartagena, Colombia. In this research we have recuperated the narration of ordinary experiences migrants and their family members usually have to face. We have also found the sociocultural significance and meaning given to the concept of parenthood gotten from the experience of one of the parents living abroad.
