Abstract

A metallic plate with a square hole array is analyzed by the finite-difference time-domain method with the periodic boundary condition. The bandwidth with polarization conversion becomes wider as the ratio of lattice lengths in the x and y directions is decreased. The converter tolerates manufacturing errors of ±0.1 μm for the lattice length and the plate thickness, respectively. It is found that the metallic plate with a square hole array operates as a quarter-wave plate by using a rectangular lattice
