Uma História Ambiental da Batinga Sul – Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil)

The paper aims to discuss the relationship established between the environmental and cultural elements that constitute the historical formation of the locality of Batinga Sul, a contryside area located in the municipality of Brochier, inserted in the border between the Valleys of the Rivers Caí and Taquari, in Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). Its territory has been occupied since approximately ten thousand years by a constant movement of anthropism marked by renewal, readjustment and transformation in the society-nature relationship, mediated, above all, by the determination of the techniques used on that space. Its landscape is, therefore, the result of a historical and cultural process. The study in question, developed in the interdisciplinary perspective of Environmental History and valuing the inseparability between culture and nature, is subsidized in the research carried out in local collections, as well as in Oral History and Ethnography. The research indicates that the local landscape, in addition to environmental conditions, is the result of a historical and cultural process marked by permanences and renovations that have been outlined since the first human settlements in the region, which, together with the German-Brazilian colonization, are constituents of collective memory and identity references of the contemporary local community.O artigo tem por objetivo discutir a relação estabelecida entre os elementos ambientais e culturais constituintes da formação histórica da localidade de Batinga Sul, região rural situada no município de Brochier, inserida entre os Vales dos Rios Caí e Taquari, no interior do Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil). Seu território vem sendo ocupado há aproximadamente dez mil anos por um constante movimento de antropismo marcado pela renovação, pelo reajuste e pela transformação na relação sociedade-natureza, mediada, sobretudo, pela determinação das técnicas usadas sobre o espaço. Sua paisagem é, assim, resultado de um processo histórico e cultural. O estudo em questão, desenvolvido na perspectiva interdisciplinar da História Ambiental e valorizando a indissociabilidade entre cultura e natureza, está subsidiado na pesquisa realizada em acervos locais, bem como na História Oral e na Etnografia. A pesquisa indica que a paisagem local, para além das condições ambientais, é fruto de um processo histórico e cultural marcado por permanências e renovações que são esboçadas desde os primeiros assentamentos humanos na região, os quais, juntamente com a colonização teuto-brasileira, são constituintes da memória coletiva e das referências identitárias da comunidade local contemporânea
