Demographic loss in japan – does current immigration model can be a solution?

Japan is one of the great powers of the World, that belongs to such political unions as G7. This country still has one of the best economic indicators not only in Asia, but also in the whole world (3rd in GDP Worldwide and one of the least unemployment rates). However, Japan also faces big issues with its population decline, starting from 00’ number of Japanese already shrinked by one million and tendencies are not promising at all, also already for two decades its fertility rate is negative. Therefore, main question of this research was to recognize if current immigration policy and changes made in a last few years may help to prevent wider loss in the future. Main tasks of this research were: 1. To identify immigration models and its features. 2. To identify possible post-immigration activities as integration etc. 3. Make a research of Japan’s legislation, including latest laws. 4. Make a research of factors that may influence current legislation. 5. Identify current immigration model of Japan. 6. Conclude if current immigration model may be a solution for demographic loss and what perspectives it may have. After research it is possible to conclude that current immigration model name would be “screen door”. This model is one of the most common around all the countries and it stands in a middle of “open doors” policy and “closed doors” policy. In this model usually countries select possible immigrants by some kind criteria and tires to integrate them to their social life, workplace etc. However, some of the countries are closer to “closed doors” policy, because of lack of integration legislation and services, that stops them from receiving significant number of foreign work force. Japan instead of its need to receive approximately 1,2 million unskilled workers still do not act properly, therefore realizations of current model will not help in the future to prevent demographic loss. Main reasons of that came from separate researches where economic, demographic and historical aspects were identified. If Japan still want to stop its demographic loss, there must be significant changes in current legislation, for example, wider integration of immigrants, stopped protectionism and racial preferences. This research paper may help to make a wider understand of conditions that influence Japan’s current immigration model and why country is so not motivated to make a bolder action
