An experimental study, funded by the Department of the Environment, was made to determine the relative efficiencies of a variety of vortex inhibitors suitable for horizontal intakes in reservoirs. The inhibitors were tested in two specially constructed tanks. Based on these findings, a general description of vortex action at intakes is presented in the report
