As part of a sustainable energy future, much attention has been drawn to the use of hydrogen fuel as it can be formed renewably through the electrolysis of water. As part of this proposed hydrogen economy, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) play a key role as clean power generators in vehicles, building and portable devices. However, for extensive commercialization, high performance and durable devices need to be produced. This article introduces the material used for electrodes and how advanced development can help to address the challenge faced by PEMFCs.</p
