Influence of temperature and alkaline treatments on the removal of wood biomass extractives and the effects on hydration of cement pastes and bioconcretes

In this work, wood sawdust has undergone different pre-treatments to reduce the amount of extractives. Therefore, the water temperature was varied between 25 and 95°C, the immersion time between 0.5 and 48h, and the sawdust mass:water volume ratio between 1:4 and 1:10, carrying out one washing cycle. Washing in alkaline solutions was also tested. Aiming the reuse of the washing water for the bioconcrete production, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis was tested. Initial and final setting time of pastes were determined by Vicat apparatus in order to evaluate the washing temperature, the immersion time, and the sawdust mass:water volume ratio. Isothermal calorimetry was used to evaluate cement pastes produced with water from the filtration processes. Adiabatic calorimetry and ultrasonic pulse velocity were performed in bioconcretes. The results showed that water heated at 80°C removes a greater amount of extractives. The amount of solubilized extractives with the immersion time of 30 min is sufficient. The use of reverse osmosis was efficient on the treatment of waste water and pastes produced with these waters presented isocalorimetric curves similar of the curve of paste with deionized water. The nanofiltration allowed the passage of the chloride ions and accelerated the hydration of the cement paste. LCA results showed that the best treatment was to wash the wood biomass in solution of 4% CaCl2. Overall, bioconcretes produced with wood biomass washed in solution of 4 % CaCl2 showed the best results.Neste trabalho foram aplicados diferentes pré-tratamentos na serragem de madeira visando reduzir os extrativos. Para tanto, variou-se a temperatura da água entre 25 e 95oC, o tempo de imersão entre 0,5 e 48 h e a razão massa de serragem:volume de água entre 1:4 e 1:10, realizando um ciclo de lavagem. A lavagem em soluções alcalinas também foi testada. Visando o reaproveitamento da água de lavagem na produção dos bioconcretos utilizou-se as técnicas de nanofiltração e osmose inversa. Ensaios de início e fim de pega com agulha de Vicat foram realizados em pastas para a avalição do tempo de imersão, temperatura de lavagem e razão biomassa:água. Calorimetria isotérmica foi utilizada para avaliar pastas de cimento produzidas com águas dos processos de filtragem. Calorimetria adiabática e de velocidade do pulso ultrassônico foram realizados em bioconcretos. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que a água aquecida a 80oC retira uma maior quantidade de extrativos e que o tempo de imersão de 30 min é suficiente para solubilizar os extrativos. O uso de osmose inversa se mostrou eficiente no tratamento das águas residuais e pastas produzidas com essas águas apresentaram curvas isocalorimétricas similares à da pasta com água deionizada. A nanofiltração permitiu a passagem dos íons cloreto e aceleraram a hidratação da pasta de cimento. O cálculo de ACV mostrou que o melhor tratamento foi lavar a serragem em água com 4% de CaCl2. No geral, o bioconcreto com biomassa lavada em água com 4% de CaCl2 apresentou os melhores resultados
