The diploma thesis addresses one of the most significant demographic changes since the 1990s: the postponement of the birth of the first child in the Czech Republic. This issue is closely related to the term of demographic transition that has not only influenced the level of fertility and the average age of mothers at the birth of their first child, but it has also opened up a new insight into family life and ways of cohabitation. The work examines fertility from two points of view: transversal and longitudinal. The objective of the thesis is to find and evaluate both economic and value-based reasons for postponing the birth of the first child to an older age.
