Background Childhood overweight and obesity is a major public health priority. Overweight or obese children are likely to become overweight or obese adults, are likely to be at increased risk of a wide range of chronic diseases (eg, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers), and can have broader effects on lifestyle, health, and wellbeing compared with their peers.
