Epidemic of Obesity

Abstract Obesity: A Global Epidemic The epidemic of obesity has become pandemic, defined as an epidemic occurring over a wide geographical area and affecting an exceptionally high amount of the populous of the area. In this abstract the author will present various facts relating to the disease of obesity. The author will lay the foundation of obesity by discussing the definition of obesity, discussion on the history of obesity and the types and/ or classifications. Also, in the foundational section the signs and symptoms of obesity will be provided, as well as, the etiology and causalgia will be discussed. The next section the author will discuss is the co-morbidities that accompany the disease of obesity. This section will also dive into the mortality of rate of obesity and the co-morbidities that are associated with someone who is morbidly obese. The last section the author will present is the impact that obesity has on healthcare, healthcare cost and contributions to healthcare to the gross domestic product of the United States. The author will conclude by offering prophylactic ways to prevent obesity and offer solutions such as wellness programs, insurance premium reduction and governmental assistance. In conclusion, as stated earlier, obesity is a pandemic that has quickly become an epidemic for not only the United States but globally as well. This paper will offer insights into definitions, classifications, causes, symptomology, co-morbidities, mortality, impact on healthcare both in cost and service, as well as, possible solutions to aide in slowing this epidemic both nationally and globally
