© 2020 Tomsk State University. All rights reserved. The article discusses the situation of trauma and the ways of its representation in modern literature. The material of the investigation are Ian McEwan's novels Saturday (2005) and On Chesil Beach (2007). Since the end of the twentieth century, the trauma situation in the literature has been viewed mainly in the context of the problem of memory, for example, in the novels by Kazuo Ishiguro, Ian McEwan, and many others. In McEwan's novels written at the beginning of the twenty-first century (Saturday, On Chesil Beach), memory problems are of secondary importance as psychological issues prevail.
