The creation of digital satellite selenocentric maps using fractal geometry and multi-parameter harmonic modeling

This work aims at the creation of digital selenographic satellite maps (DSSM) using fractal geometry and multi-parameter harmonic analysis. The observational data for DSSM were produced by the “Clementine”, “Kaguya” and “LRO” space missions. An electronic database on altimetry measurements was built and they were brought into the single reference system by robust modeling. Based on the produced data and the method of multi-parameter harmonic analysis, we developed a digital selenographic satellite map covering the entire sphere of the Moon. To analyze the digital cartographic surface, we used the method of fractal geometry for estimating fractal similarity coefficients and fractal dimensions. As a result, the data on the areas of similar structure of DSSM were produced. According to some modern investigations, one may conclude that those areas were formed at the equivalent chemical and physical processes. This conclusion is important for developing planetary evolution theories. The digital map was transformed into a color map depending on color height scale. After that more than 150 SRGB (Square, Red, Green, Blue) were analyzed. Using the author's method of fractal analysis, we found color characteristics for SRGB. The averaged fractal dimension of the selenocentric surfaces profiles models was found to 1.345. The similarity and difference parameters are determined by the author's method using fractal similarity coefficients. The analysis of macrosurfaces based on multi-parameter and fractal methods for the selenocentric models built in this work has not been conducted before. These results are of significant importance for selecting the most suitable zone for spacecraft landing on the Moon and placing habitable and robotic lunar bases
