This article aims to present how the environmental changes resulting from the construction of the Tucuruí dam are on the basis of conflicts between artisanal fishermen in the lower Tocantins. Saracá Island was the place of field research. The observation revealed that the desiccation, the change of the flow and the artificial pulse of the Tocantins River and its tributaries, as well as changes in water characteristics and changes in the morphology of the Saracá island, resulted in species loss, reduction of fish, and obsolescence of fishing equipment, with critical consequences for territory and local social relations.
