This paper describes the process followed in developing pilots of virtual teamwork with the involvement of staff and students from six Universities. The consortium of ten institutions consisting from four EU partners and six partner country institutions was formed for a Tempus project working towards the creation of a Joint Masters in Software Engineering (JMSE). The scope of the pilots was to provide a realistic experience to those involved in the pilots, including a remote development scenario, global software team infrastructure and collaboration and communication practices met in virtual teams
