An analytic approach to improve e-Learning with Moodle

To identify usage trends and patterns with our student VLE (Moodle 2), Kilmarnock College installed Piwik Analytics to enhance the reporting facilities available within Moodle. Moodle administrators worldwide will know the limitations of reporting functionality within the platform. Piwik offers a more detailed insight into how our students were engaging with e-Learning. It allows us to obtain details of, for example, busiest time of day, most popular courses, entry and exit pages, search engine keywords and referrers, hardware/software configurations of users, and length of stay. It is an effective tool that enables us to compile monthly reports for Curriculum Areas to identify where online learning delivery can be improved for the benefit of our students
