Delivering Sustainable Development Activity 2: National Strategies

Since 1992 there has seen a significant number of national level initiatives on sustainable development. There has also been a considerable attempt to identify and reflect on those elements within national strategies which represent 'good practice'. Whilst national conditions, circumstances and priorities may be vary sharply, there is growing consensus that a set of key principles represent the foundation upon which to build specific national sustainable agendas. (UNDP/OECD, 2002; IISD/GTZ, 2004; OECD, 2006; ESDN, 2007) In this activity, we will review the experience of over 15 years of agenda development and examine the key principles which are being recommended and recognised as the 'cornerstones' of national strategies. You will then have the opportunity to examine in detail the evolution of a national development strategy
