Inverse simulation allows system inputs to be found to give model outputs that match required time histories. Examples include inputs needed for specific aircraft manoeuvres or movements of a robot arm and such cases lead to investigations that differ from conventional simulation studies. Inverse simulation has been used for aircraft and helicopter flight mechanics modelling for some time and provides alternatives to analytical methods of inverse modelling used in control applications.
