Many excavations have been carried out on the oppida of the city of the Bituriges Cubi since the 1960s. Trenches that have been cut through the ramparts of several sites have revealed sequences comprising of two successive fortification models: the murus gallicus and the high dump. While the murus gallicus relates to a more prestigious fortification built during the new foundations of towns during the Late La Tène period, the high dump is clearly a rampart built for war, with a strictly military objective.
