A migratory species of bird that occurs in southern and eastern Lithuania in extensive mosaic forest areas dominated by pine. The population is 400–600 pairs in Lithuania, with a density that can reach 0.32 pair/1000 ha. A critical negative factor affecting the survival of this species is the felling of hollow trees, both dead and alive.
