Bernardo de Toro led the immaculist movement in Seville during 1614. He was able to bring his cause to the Court of Philip III, and then to Rome, as an agent of the extraordinary embassy sent to get the definition of the Mistery en 1616. Other than this, he acted in some causes of saints, but, above all things, he carried on directing a congregation which kept alive a prophetic tradition, beginning in the 16th century, of apocalyptic leanings, and appealed to recognized models of holiness to claim a sort of spiritual filiation or validation, as Theresa of Avila, Beatriz de Silva, John of Avila and others. They finally got a protector in the great patron of the Lead Books and the Cause of the Immaculate Conception, Archbishop Pedro de Castro...
