Imagine a world in which magic exists and the legends are true – some of them anyway. This dissertation delves into the universe created by Ben Aaronovitch in his Rivers of London book series, a world in which the action takes place in a plausible version of 21st-century London. The author introduces the creatures – both magical and mundane – that inhabit it and presents London itself as a quasi-protagonist, as well as recounts the adventures of the main character, police officer and wizard’s apprentice Peter Grant, as he navigates London, additionally acquainting readers with relevant bits of city history and many of its landmarks.
