In orthodontic bonding a bracket is placed on the tooth enamel and forces are applied to move the teeth. Orthodontic bracket should therefore be resistant to both applied and masticatory forces. Polymerization of the adhesive can be activated chemically or by light. Light curing of the adhesive under stainless steel brackets is a matter of interest among clinicians and researchers. It is known, that proper polymerization of the adhesive resin influences to the mechanical properties of a bonded bracket. Unpolymerized monomers decrease bond strength but are also shown to have harmful effects when leaching to the oral cavity.
