Historic Landscape Characterisation was completed for Devon in order to record and understand the wider historic landscape of the county. The project was undertaken by Devon County Council and English Heritage, and supported by Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Service and Dartmoor National Park Authority. Carried out between July 2001 and December 2004, the project was undertaken to understand and map the landscape that we see today with reference to its historical development, and to be used for landscape management and research
