Over the years, methane hydrates have been intensely investigated for their vast potential as a future energy source and hazard to global climate. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), a hydrate promoting surfactant, was proven to increase the ethane hydrate formation rate by more then 700% (Zhong and Rogers, 2000) The mechanism proposed by Zhong and Rogers suggested the formation of micelles in the liquid bulk solution.
