Primary Immunodeficiencies (PIDs) are defined as inherent defects in the immune system. Over 200 PIDs have been described; many in recent years with improvements in detection and increasing awareness. Multiple paradigm shifts have occurred in our understanding of PIDs. The literature review of this thesis seeks to highlight these shifts with suitable examples. One such paradigm shift occurring is the understanding that these diseases can also affect adults in a broader context.
