The thesis expounds, analyzes, and evaluates Adolf Reinach's philosophical work and his role in the development of early phenomenology. Reinach's ontological and epistemological assumptions are clarified through an analysis of his theories of states-of-affairs, intentionality, and judgments, first developed by Reinach in reference to judgments and subsequently utilized in his analysis of ethical and legal questions. A critical exposition and evaluation of his legal philosophy focuses attention on the analysis of "social acts", "determinations", and the distinctions between the moral and legal spheres.
