Perceiving a visual object often leads to the formation of its representation in memory. In this case, the role of visual perception in memory is emphasized, but it is also conceivable that memory plays a role in the processing of a visual stimulus in a top-down manner. One way to study whether memory does influence visual perception is to make use of the selective adaptation method designed to produce aftereffects.
