Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant childhood brain tumour. The discovery of stem-like cells in malignant cancers has provided an alternative hypothesis for tumour initiation and progression. Given the toxicities associated with conventional therapies, developing therapies targeting aberrant molecular pathways or stem-like cells in medulloblastoma may improve overall survival and quality of life. Numerous reports have indicated that stem-like cells also exist in long-established cultured cell lines.
