Numerous post-stroke rehabilitative approaches developed to date have only limited effectiveness in improving upper extremity function in the post-acute stage of stroke. This limited effectiveness can be partly attributed to the complex interaction between neuronal injury and the mechanisms of motor recovery. This study examined the extent to which motor functions and neurophysiological measures fluctuate over the course of nine sessions of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in seven chronic stroke patients.
