Eicosanoids, metabolites of arachidonic acid, result from two enzymatic pathways: cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX). Prostaglandin F2 (PG), a product of the COX pathway, plays a role in mammalian ovulation. There is some evidence that LOX products, such as 12- and 15- hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (HETE), may also be involved in the ovulatory process but the information pertaining to the role of these metabolites is limited.[...
