In the context of Canada's history of colonial control over the North, research on digital media in Nunavut has shifted from viewing the Internet as a source of cultural destruction to a tool for cultural revitalization and the transmission of Inuit Qaujimatquqangit or Inuit traditional knowledge. In this thesis, I draw on Glen Coulthard's critique of colonial politics of recognition to argue that by attending to the impact digital media has on relationships with the land and living conditions, research on Inuit cultural revitalization online could have a significance beyond supporting the politics of recognition.
