The problem of electrical power transmission and stability of electrical systems is being studied very extensively at the present time. There are perhaps two main reasons for this.First, the long high voltage transmission lines of to-day usually operate near the steady state stability limit. Secondly, the interconnection of a large number of power units to form one system tends to make short circuit currents excessive and calcul tion on their effect on stability increasingly difficult. The larger and more complicated a system becomes the more necessary it is to make these calculations accurately, since damage to property and interruption of service will be much more severe than on smaller, lower voltage systems.
