Methods of sub-sampling cigar leaf tobacco in relation to accuracy.

A survey of the methods used in agricultural experimentation reveals a tendency toward a more accurate procedure, for the reduction of experimental error and improvement of field technique. With cereals and forage crop tests, some marked progress has already been made in experimental procedure. At experimental stations and agricultural colleges more accuratemethods of testing have been employed and more care has been exercised in mechanical operations. In order to reduce soil error, changes have been made in the size and arrangement of plots as well as the number of replications. The periods of testing have been lengthened in order to reduce errors due to climate. Finally, the application of statistica1 methods to experimental data has provided a sounder basis for comparison of varieties and treatments. The same attention has not been given to experimental work with tobacco and as a result the literature dealing with its various phases is quite limited. [...
