Strain localization in ancient shear zones is critical to our understanding of earthquake cycle processes at modern plate boundaries. The northwest-southeast oriented, dextral, Pofadder Shear Zone (Namibia - South Africa) is a ~1 Ga, transcurrent structure exposed from the brittle-plastic transitional zone. This thesis culminates in a new detailed understanding of seismic cycle processes contributing to time-varying behaviors of mid-crustal faults. On a regional scale, my mapping and geothermobarometry data show that the shear zone has been rotated by 1.6 - 6.6° around a horizontal axis, exposing deeper crustal levels to the northwest and an oblique transect through the transitional zone. Brittle-plastic deformation fabrics and upper greensc...
