The goal of this study was to understand and model the mechanics of four groups of self-assembled nano-structural soft materials, namely wormlike micelles, toroidal micellar bundles, lipid bilayers, and collagen fibers. The constitutive models derived here are aimed at extending our ability to predict the response of biological organisms under mechanical loads from first principles, directly from the behavior of their main microscopic constituents.A theoretical framework for the elasticity of wormlike micelles, which helps us characterize their mechanical behavior, was missing in the literature.
