Convection and quantitative precipitation forecasts (QPFs) make up some of the poorest performance areas of forecasting models across the globe. While other aspects of numerical modelling improve consistently throughout the years, precipitation forecasts remain a great obstacle within the atmospheric science community. In this study we define and present a new numeric technique to improve quantitative precipitation forecasts, Radar Mapping. Radar Mapping is an iterative process involving the assimilation of radar data and model water vapour to improve large scale humidity fields.
