An associative memory, unlike conventional memory systems, is a device or data structure that maps input-output patterns directly, without the need to construct an explicit address before retrieving the information content. The retrieval complexity grows in the data dimension, independent of the amount of data stored. Recently Gripon and Berrou propose a new type called clustered sparse associative memory (CSAM), which adopts a particular sparse encoding and non-linear iterative retrieval algorithms.
