Controlled radical polymerization via nitroxide-mediated polymerization (NMP) was used to make well-defined polymers (narrow molecular weight distribution, predictable chain length) for evaluation of anti-bacterial properties. The NMP kinetics of the homopolymerization of ethylene glycol dicyclopentenyl ether acrylate (EGDEA) (effect of temperature and additional free nitroxide) indicated a lack of control for the majority of the polymerization, independent of the temperature (90-120 °C) or additional free nitroxide (0-10 mol %) conditions selected.
