In the past fifty years or so, molybdenum has come into considerable prominence. Up to the beginning of the last World War, its main uses were in connection with the manufacture of magnet steels and of chemical salts such as ammonium molybdate and molybdic acid. However with the World War molybdenum became important owing to its use in a number of special steels. During this period a vast amount of experimental work was undertaken and a more extensive search was made for molybdenum deposits. While the industrial application of molybdenum has been extensive in the last decade or so, the demand for it will doubtless be further increased by the present war.
