This thesis examines how the Inkas’ preconceptions of two neighboring Ecuadorian societies, the Caranqui Confederation and the Yumbos, affected imperial methods of subjugation. Drawing upon a mixture of primary historical sources as well as previous archaeological and ethnohistoric research, I suggest that regional Inka-proclaimed imperial accomplishments were not necessarily as successful as they conveyed. My analysis provides evidence to further support recently developed notions of Inka-propagated discrimination against societies of different environmental contexts; however, I also find that many of these biases were slowly being reassessed in northern Ecuador.Cette thèse examine la façon dont les idées préconçues des Inkas à propos de...
