This study examines early attachment, negative life events and adolescent adaptation. Previous research has looked at both early attachment and negative life events in isolation but there are few studies that investigated how both of these factors cumulatively predict adolescent adaptation. Additionally, very little research has been conducted on attachment during the preschool period and adaptation in adolescence. Participants included 72 French-speaking adolescents (41 girls, 31 boys) ranging between 16-18 years of age, and their mothers. Attachment was assessed at the age of 5-6 years, using the Main and Cassidy (1988) separation-reunion classification system.
