This thesis explores the cosmopolitan message found in two works of experimental writing, the poetry collection O Cidadán by Erín Moure and the novel My Paris by Gail Scott. While these works do not explicitly conceptualize cosmopolitanism, the reflection on the relation between the particular and the universal found in both of them evokes the concept of cosmopolitanism as it is theorized by Kwame Anthony Appiah (rooted cosmopolitanism), Michael Cronin (micro-cosmopolitanism) and Bonnie Honig (democratic cosmopolitanism). We also aim to study how their particularist approach to cosmopolitanism impacts the genre, the multilingualism and the discourse on translation specific to each work.
