A storage rot due to the fungus Gloeosporium album Osterw. was described in Switzerland by Osterwalder (12) in 1907. This storage rot was reported from Switzerland by Schne1der-Orelli (17) in 1912, from Belgium by Marchal and Marchal (10) in 1921, and from England by Kidd and Beaumont (7) in 1924. Ogilvie (11) reported in 1935 that its occurrence in England was on the increase. An apple storage rot, since identified as caused by Gloeosporium album was observed by the writer in 1934-35 at the Dominion Experimental Station, Fredericton, New Brunswick.
