Nanocrystalline cellulose is rapidly emerging as a promising material due to its impressive mechanical and optical properties. The properties of nanocrystalline cellulose can be tailored towards specific applications through surface chemical modification. Thus, there is an impetus to further investigate the surface properties of these nanostructures. One spectroscopic approach is through the attachment of fluorescent dyes, which can act as probes of the surface interface.
