Frothers are commonly used in mineral flotation processes to reduce bubble size, slow bubble rise, and stabilize froth. Frother chemistry (structure) plays an important role in determining these functions. In this thesis, over 50 surfactants (mainly from two frother families, alcohols and polyglycols) were investigated to determine the structure effect on bubble rise velocity. The structural variables were: alkyl chain length in alcohols and polyglycols, the number of propylene oxide (PO) and ethylene oxide (EO) groups in polyglycols and location of methyl branch and hydroxyl group in alcohols.
