Cooperative transmission acts as a distributed solution for providing robust wireless communications. It pools available resources, such as power and bandwidth, across the network. The relay network is the simplest information theoretic model for a cooperative wireless network and a full understanding of communication limits over such a network can potentially shed light on the design of more efficient wireless networks.
